How to Get Unstuck and Take Action in Your Business Now

Welcome to Expand your Fempire with Caterina Rando, the podcast for women in business on a mission. Sharing ideas to support you to grow and thrive. Now here’s your host, Caterina Rando.

[00:00:00] Caterina Rando: Hey my friends! Blissing to be with you. Today I want to share with you some ideas to support you, to get more in action, to support you to bliss and thrive and gain massive value because you’re more in action in your business. Does that sound good? Okay, bing bing bing, let’s get our party started.

[00:00:51] My favorite quote of all time is “action is the antidote to despair” by Joan Baez. If you have not embraced this philosophy, really, I want to invite you to do that. Action is the antidote to whatever is ailing you. Now, I want to share with you today several ways to get you unstuck. This is inspired because yesterday I was talking to this wonderful lady. I’ve known her for years. She’s super smart. She’s got massive value to bring. You know what she said to me though? She said “Caterina, you know what I do? I make all these plans, I write all these plans, and then I don’t do anything.” Now I’ve been thinking about this because I have seen this over and over and over. Women have all these great things they want to do, and sometimes it happens, but sometimes they feel stuck, they feel really paralyzed, or they really want to do this thing, but it’s just not happening. Does that sound like you? Is that ever the case for you? If it is, let’s talk about it. You will not get going if some of these challenges are present for you.

[00:02:10] For example, if you do not feel like you can accomplish what you want to accomplish, you know what? You’re probably not going to be in action. The first thing I want you to look at is do you believe in yourself? Do you believe that you have massive value to bring? Do you believe that you could do this with one eye closed and one hand tied behind your back? I have to tell my clients that all the time: “sweetheart, you can do that with one eye closed, one hand tied behind your back. It’s easy for you”. This is what I want you to recognize. Oftentimes we don’t get going because we don’t think we’re going to get to the finish line. Well, the thing is that yes, if you don’t get started, you’re not going to get to the finish line, but once you are in action, you are more likely to stay in action. You know that principle: an object in motion stays in motion, an object at rest stays at rest. It’s the same thing for you in your business. Now, if you’re saying “okay, Caterina, that sounds good, but sometimes I just don’t feel like it”. Well, let’s talk how do you start to feel like getting in action?

[00:03:21] This morning I did my Achieving Sales Bliss workshop. Love teaching this workshop. And one of the ladies that was there has been my client for, I don’t know, five years. She’s come on retreats, she’s done our speaker mastermind, she’s done our sales program before. She was there, I was surprised to see her. Not because I haven’t seen her in a while, but because well, you know, if you’ve been to the class 10 times, I don’t necessarily expect that I’m going to see you again. She showed up this morning, and you know what she said to me a little bit into the workshop? She said, “Caterina, I woke up tired. I came here, now I feel energized”. I’m sharing this with you because sometimes a workshop, a class, going networking, virtual or live and in-person, getting together with a friend, talking with a friend can be so energizing and that supports you to get in action. And if you can find ways to include inspiration in your daily life, really as a daily success practice, you’re going to be supported to stay more inspired, more of the time.

[00:04:39] That’s the first one. Inspiration. Look for some inspiration, get some inspiration, find some inspiration. Because that will fuel your action. And part of what can be very inspiring –this is the next thing I want you to put your attention on– is going to be with someone that is doing what you want to be doing. Now you may know that we have our Thriving with Women’s Retreats Certified Leader Program. This is something I did before the pandemic. We’re getting started on it again, where women come and learn how to do retreats. Do you know what I found though? Ladies don’t have to be in the program on how to do retreats to get going on their retreats. Sometimes the ladies just come to one of our luxury retreats, or what we call now our Bliss Retreat for Women Leaders on a Mission. They come to our retreat, and they see how it’s done, and they think to themselves probably “Hey, if Caterina could do it, I can do it.” And they go home and they get started on their retreats. Why? Because seeing how it’s done, seeing what they can do better, seeing what they can do differently, what they want to do differently, inspires them to take action. The modeling inspires them. So if you want to be doing group programs, or workshops, or retreats, or events, or have your own certification program, participate in someone else’s and let them be a model for you. And that will support you to get in action on your own.

[00:06:17] Now, one of the things that you can also do with some modeling is get some mentoring on top of the modeling. There somewhere in some of us, maybe from your family of origin, is this idea that you’re supposed to do it yourself. That’s poppy cock. That’s ridiculous. You don’t got to do it yourself. Get support. And mentoring is one of the greatest ways to have support because you’re getting support from someone that’s already done one, two, 10 times, 20 times, what you want to be doing. And your mentor is further along the path of mastery than you. Remember, the goal is not to do stuff, the goal is to master stuff. And this is why having a mentor who is 10 steps ahead, a hundred steps ahead, 10 years ahead of you on what you want to be doing will support you to move towards mastery much faster, to figure things out much faster, to be massively monetizing where you want to be monetizing much faster.

[00:07:28] I talked to a lady today, and I got to tell you, I was not uplifted, because you know why? She said to me, she’s doing, writing all of her own marketing copy. She’s doing all of her own social media. And to me, what it sounded like is she’s doing all the things that she doesn’t love, and so she’s not focused on the part that she does love and that she wants to build mastery in. So part of the reason I’m always talking to you about getting more support in your business is because I want you to focus on the parts that you want to master. And by the way, these are your five pillars of building your Fempire, which I’m not going to go into now, because then I’ll get down a whole ‘nother tunnel. We have a podcast episode, if you haven’t listened to our Expand Your Fempire Podcast episode on the five pillars of building your Fempire, I want to encourage you to do that because that will support you a lot as well.

[00:08:23] Okay, so you’re going to get some inspiration. You’re going to get some modeling. You’re going to be smart enough to get some mentoring, to move you towards mastery. And one of the things that we really don’t talk about enough, that is so wonderful for keeping you in action is encouragement. I love to be an encouraging force in people’s lives. I love to remind women how awesome and amazing they are. I love to remind them of the things that they’ve already accomplished that they forgot about. It happens because you know what? If you’re listening, you’re probably a high-achieving woman. As a high-achieving woman, we are onto the next project, our next focus, our next goal. We usually don’t stop to reflect, and celebrate, and count our blessings, and give ourselves a pat on the back, and say “Hey, good for me that I did this,” and take the lessons from it. Oftentimes what we focus on is what’s not working, where we’re challenged, and I really want to encourage you to focus on celebrating your successes, celebrating your wins. You know, if you’ve been in any group programs with me, we always start with a win and a check-in, because I want you to celebrate your wins. I want you, in fact, to be loud and proud about your wins. I love it when ladies tell me in our Thrive at Sales program that they’ve had their best month ever, and we all celebrate. Or when someone says to me they just got a new client. I got a text yesterday from someone who said to me “Caterina, I’ve done $44,000 in business.” It was only the middle of the month. Bing bing! Now, that’s encouraging for me on the receiving end. Hopefully, it inspires you and encourages you when you hear about other people’s successes. I want to invite you to be a force and a source of encouragement for other people. What do you think about that? Because you know what, the more you give it, the more you’re going to get it back. And a little encouragement goes a long way. I invite you to amplify your encouragement of others, and this will support you to stay in action.

[00:11:01] There’s so much more here to talk to you about, about staying in action. Another thing I want to have you look at is, is there something that you’re not getting to, that you can invite someone else to do with you? For example, years ago, I used to go for a walk super early in the morning with my friend Barbara. We would walk around Lake Merced in my city. Now, let me tell you something. I’m not getting up at 5:30 in the morning to walk around the lake. But when I tell my friend that I’m going to be there at 6:15, yeah, I’m getting up at 5:30 in the morning. Sometimes it’s easier to be accountable to someone else than to ourselves. And I know there’s probably a lot of psychology on this that I’m not familiar with at this time. Maybe it’s because we don’t want to let anybody down, and we can give ourselves a break, but when we know someone else’s counting on us, we’re inclined to show up. I want to ask you, is there something where you can invite someone to be accountable with you and do something together?

[00:12:09] Now I shared with you, we would walk around the lake, that’s live and in person. You know what else you can do though? These days you can connect virtually, you can meet in a Zoom room, and you can do things together while you’re all separated in your own places, while being connected virtually. For example, in my Thrive at Sales accelerator, we have sales blitzes. We have all community sales blitzes. Everyone gets in the Zoom room. We declare what we’re going to do, and usually we’re focused on doing reach outs to invite people to a workshop, or reaching out to invite people to have a sales conversation, or reach outs to reconnect with people that we haven’t talked to in a long time. All of these reach-outs seem to happen with more ease, there seems to be more focus and more momentum when we all do it together. And I invite you to look at what you can all do together. When I’m teaching my Get Booked For Speaking program, we always take time to do a booking blitz together. And I’ve had ladies get six speeches in 20 minutes. Why? Because it creates more focus, it creates more inclination. We don’t want to report back at the end of the blitz time that we didn’t get any results, right? This really, really works. You know what else though? It’s super fun. I want you to look at what can you do together in a zoom room with some of your friends. Because again, there’s that structure that creates focus and momentum and accountability. And you know, the most fun part of the whole thing? At the end, you get to celebrate your wins. And I have seen several women’s communities that do this very effectively. Now, if you are not involved in a women’s community, you can put a note to your friends on Facebook. “Hey, everybody, you want to meet me in here and we’re going to get together, and we’re going to work on goals together, or work on calls, or work on getting booked for speaking, or work on writing our book.” Whatever it is, this is what I want to share with you. And this is a structure that supports you to stay in action if you do it on the regular, if you do it every week, if you do it even once a month, whatever you all decide, this will absolutely support you.

[00:14:55] Now, you say “okay Caterina, this is all good”. I want to give you more ideas because I want to really support you to get in action. One of the things that I want to make sure you’re including in your overall success plan and program is a getaway. I want to make sure that you’re having a getaway at least twice a year. Now, a getaway is like a short vacation, like a weekend getaway, or two-day getaway. And I encourage you to pick a friend or two or three or four to go do a getaway with. But here’s the thing. You can’t just pick any friend. You’ve got to pick a friend that is an action-oriented friend, a friend that you know, she’s going to stay in action too. and the two of you are going to have so much fun together. But the other thing that happens is you’re going to come back uplifted, rejuvenated, refreshed.

My friend, Alexa, who is super smart, such a sweet, lovely, beautiful person, we went on a getaway to Napa Valley overnight. We went to the cafe, we went to a nice place for dinner. You know what else we did? We talked each other’s ear off talking about everything, and by the time we came home, I committed to drinking a gallon of water a day, committed more to my slim down program. We’re having a weekly check-in. Why? Because my friend Alexa is a very motivated person, and it’s fun to get together and work on your dreams and talk about your dreams and your desires, and to do it together. Having a check-in every week with her makes it a structure that supports action. Do you have this in your life all over the place? I’m encouraging you. I have another friend, my friend Jane, we talk on Sunday mornings. We talk about our goals, our dreams, we brainstorm, we’d say what actions we’re going to take for the week. Not the regular actions, but the actions we haven’t been getting to, the actions that we’ve been maybe procrastinating on, and we support each other to get in action, and we encourage each other to stay in action. And that’s what I want for you.

[00:17:18] I want you to look at where you’re not taking the action that you want to take. And here’s something else that I want to share with you. One of the things that often helps is declaring publicly what it is that you want to do. You could declare it to your friends on Facebook or Instagram or LinkedIn, or you could share it in a zoom room at a meeting. You could send an email to your list about it. What do you want to do? Maybe you’re working on your book, maybe you’re launching a program. And once you put it out there and you let people know about it, you will find that you have more focus and you’re more in action about it than you were before. Because consciously or unconsciously, you’re afraid that somebody’s going to say to you, “what’s happening with that,” and you’re not going to be in action on it, or getting where you want to go by the time you want to get there. Making a public declaration definitely puts energy on what you’re doing. But you know what else happens when you make a public declaration? People can support you. They can share resources with you. They can give you ideas. And that will definitely move you along faster.

[00:18:45] Now, I got more for you here. One of my favorite books you probably heard me talk about before is atomic habits. One of the things that really supports action is creating an AM routine and a PM routine. Now, of course, your AM routine and your PM routine involve many of your self-care activities, like exercising and taking your shower and taking your vitamins and meditating, and whatever you do in the morning and evening to set yourself up for success for the day or the next day. I want to invite you to add a couple of things specifically to move forward whatever project it is that you’re feeling stuck on. One of the things I want to encourage you to do is to review your goals and your action plan every morning when you’re still half asleep. Put that in your AM routine. And then before you put your head on the pillow at night, review it again. Now, review it and think about it happening, but you have to watch it at night because you don’t want to have your brain go off, and then you can’t get to sleep. You want to review it. You want to focus on it and you want to see all of these goals being accomplished. And not only see them being accomplished, but feel the bliss and the joy that you will feel when you finish these tasks and get whatever it is you want. For example, right now I’m working on my next book. But you know what happens? Everything else gets in the way of me putting my derriere in the chair and writing my book, which is why I’m bringing in this practice of every day seeing me holding the book in my hand, seeing me talking about it, seeing me blissing as I speak about it, this supports the action of making it happen. Because when you have these big goals that are not necessarily going to change your life today, it’s more something to change your life or influence your work or impact your work in the future, it’s sometimes hard to get going on them right now, which is why these things that we’re discussing today are so important. Do you have a compelling vision of what it is you desire to accomplish? And not only see it in your mind, but feel it in your body. And make this part of your AM routine and your PM routine, to spend a little time seeing and feeling your compelling vision, because this will give you more momentum to get in action.

[00:21:40] Now the other thing related to your AM routine and your PM routine is make sure that you’re really focused on self-care in your life. Because without vitality, my friend, you’re not going to accomplish nothing. If you don’t have vitality to do your regular thing, you’re not certainly going to have vitality to do this new, extra thing that you’re wanting to put your attention on. Really, really important that you master self-care.

When I was younger, sometimes people would talk about, oh, pulling an all-nighter or this and that. Okay, well, maybe in college. The thing is that self-care in every stage of your life is an essential ingredient to stay in action and also to stay uplifted, because your mental health is also supported when you’re getting enough sleep and exercising and moving and hydrating, and also, of course, being with people you love. That’s self-care. And I mentioned earlier about the getaways. This is to get away to fill your cup, to get rejuvenated, to expose yourself to new ideas and new experiences, because that will infuse and inspire you to take action where you want to take action.

[00:23:05] When I was on my cruise around the Hawaiian islands earlier this year, we went whale watching, we went snorkeling, and it reminded me how much I love to snorkel. I said to myself on that trip, “I’m going to have more snorkeling in my life”. Well, because I live in San Francisco where it’s pretty cold, you can’t just go to the beach and go snorkling. You know what? That means more travel. You know what more travel means? More financial surplus. You know what that means? That means more sales. Focus on the thing that you really want, the desired outcome, the reward of your action. And that will infuse you often to be more in action. You may not like the daily tasks associated to getting what you want, but if you focus on the outcome and the reward and the great feeling you’ll be having when you’re there, whatever your version of snorkeling around the world is, that will infuse you to get more in action.

[00:24:19] Perhaps though there is one thing that gets in the way too much that I’ve seen that I want to share with you, and that is the pursuit of perfection. Now, nobody acknowledges that they’re pursuing perfection. Nobody thinks of themselves as pursuing perfection. However, that’s often what happens. And sometimes it’s unconscious. It’s a fear of what people will say. It’s a concern that you’re not going to look good. And I want to let you know something: people care about the value that you bring to support them. When you are giving a workshop, for example, your audience will allow you losing your place or forgetting what you’re saying or speech fillers. They’ll allow you all that as long as you bring massive value. And I want to emphasize this with you, because done is better than perfect. Out there is better than getting ready to get ready to begin to think about getting going. Ask yourself, is this impeding your progress? Are you too concerned about what Mary, Jane, and Sheila, Tom, Dick, and Harry think, or are you focused on the great results that you’re going to get for your clients? This is what I want for you.

[00:25:45] My friend. Here’s what I want to remind you of. You have massive value to bring. You have dreams. You have goals. Action is the antidote to whatever ails you between where you are and where you want to be. Take our discussion today, consider which of these things we’ve discussed will support you in getting more in action. Your business is supposed to be your bliss. And many of the things we’ve discussed are not only going to get you in action, they’re a lot of fun, and they will uplift you and support you to thrive even more. My friend, I am blissing to be with you. Join me for our next workshop. Please go to caterinarando.com/events to see what we have coming in.

[00:26:38] I’m here to support you to sell more, speak more, serve more, and most importantly, to uplift more lives with your amazing self and your amazing business. Bing bing bing! Love to you. Can’t wait to be with you again. Connect with me, reach out any time because I got way more value for you and I’d love to connect with you and watch you thrive.
